“Every good and perfect gift is from above” – Hand-lettered watercolor quote

Christmas is right around the corner. I have Christmas music playing almost all hours of the day with my daughters and I breaking out in song and dance when one of our favorites come on. We’ve been making Christmas cookies, gift for our loved ones and wrapping up gifts. While Christmas celebrations are looking a bit different this year we still have our favorite Christmas traditions.

MY Favorite Christmas Traditions

Celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ and baking him a birthday cake! Every Christmas day we bake a cake for Jesus, sing Happy Birthday and celebrate His birth! I love keeping the birth of Jesus first and foremost during this time of year.

Getting a real Christmas tree. After Thanksgiving, we go to a local tree farm in Peninsula, Ohio and pick out our perfect tree! Then, we walk around the grounds (which involved singing and skipping this year- haha) and enjoy a cup of hot apple cider. It’s one of my favorite traditions!

Being Home for Christmas. We’ve made a point when we had our first little one to always be home on Christmas morning. Our family’s know and respect that we choose to have a family day that day. We wanted our little ones to wake up in their beds on Christmas morning, see our tree and their gifts… there’s something just so special and magical about that.

The Shepard’s Treasure. Instead of Elf on the Shelf, we’ve opted for a Christian based version – The Shepard’s Treasure. It’s about a Shepard that is following the star in search of baby Jesus (which he finds on Christmas morning). He still gets into all kinds of mischief (like the Elf on the Shelf), but the reasons behind are faith-based and always relate to Jesus somehow. My daughters LOVE looking for “Evan” (that’s what they’ve named their shepard) each morning.

Family Christmas Ornament. Each year we get a family Christmas ornament. Sometimes it highlights an important event (like being pregnant, or first year as a Mom or Dad, First home, etc…). It’s really something we look forward too and love putting up on our tree each year.

Even though Christmas might look a little different this year - don’t forget to hold tight to the traditions that you have (and don’t be afraid to make new ones!)! It’s what keeps the spirit and joy alive!
